Explosions were heard and smoke was seen rising in central Dubai on Friday morning after the United Arab Emirates intercepted an aerial attack believed to be linked to the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. Authorities confirmed that the intercepted object caused minor damage to the façade of a building due to falling debris.

The incident comes a day after multiple drone and missile threats targeted the UAE. On Thursday, Emirati defence systems successfully intercepted 10 ballistic missiles and 26 drones, which officials said were part of Iran’s sustained attacks on US military facilities across the region. One drone reportedly fell in Dubai’s Al Badaa area, while debris from another intercepted projectile struck a building along Sheikh Zayed Road, causing limited structural damage but no major casualties.

Regional Alert and Security Measures

Heightened security alerts were reported across the Gulf as the conflict enters its second week. Early Friday, air raid sirens sounded across Bahrain after a massive fire broke out near the country’s airport. Authorities said the blaze followed drone strikes believed to have targeted fuel storage tanks.

Bahrain’s Interior Ministry urged residents to remain calm and seek shelter as emergency services responded to the situation.

Wider Middle East Tensions

The escalating military confrontation has also intensified instability across the broader Middle East. Qatar on Friday condemned recent Israeli air strikes in southern Lebanon that reportedly killed 15 people, including five children.

According to reports, nine people died in a strike on a village in southern Lebanon, while six others were killed in separate attacks on two towns the previous day. In a statement, Qatar’s foreign ministry described the strikes as a “blatant violation of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701.”

Major Iranian Leadership Losses

In a dramatic development earlier in the conflict, Iran confirmed that its Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had been killed during a large-scale joint strike carried out by the United States Armed Forces and Israel Defense Forces.

The Israeli military claimed that fighter jets eliminated seven senior officials in Iran’s defence leadership, including prominent commanders such as Aziz Nasirzadeh and Mohammad Pakpour.

The unprecedented strikes mark one of the most significant escalations in decades between the United States, Israel, and Iran, raising concerns about a wider regional conflict involving multiple Gulf states.

Ongoing Situation

Authorities across the Gulf region remain on high alert as air defence systems continue monitoring for additional threats. Governments have urged residents to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.

The rapidly evolving situation has heightened fears of a broader regional war as diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions remain uncertain.
