“TVK Emerges as Largest Party in Tamil Nadu Elections”

Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay has made a major political impact in Tamil Nadu, as his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as the single largest party in the 2026 state assembly elections. TVK won 108 seats, which is a significant achievement, but still short of the 118 seats required to form a government on its own. The party defeated both major regional rivals , the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). This result clearly shows that many voters in Tamil Nadu were looking for change. According to political observers, TVK now needs the support of at least 10 more legislators to reach the majority mark and form the government.

“Congress Leadership Monitoring Situation Closely”

Senior Congress leader Girish Chodankar, who is also the party’s in charge for Tamil Nadu, said he has already informed the central leadership about the evolving political situation. He confirmed that reports have been submitted to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi, and senior leader K. C. Venugopal.

Chodankar stated that the party leadership will soon decide its next move in Tamil Nadu. Speaking about the election results, he said that the people of the state have largely voted for change. He also pointed out that young voters and women played a key role in TVK’s success, as they strongly supported the party.

There is speculation that TVK may seek support from either the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance or the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance. However, no official announcement has been made yet regarding any alliance.

“Process of Government Formation Explained”

Political expert Vijayanand explained the constitutional process that follows such an election result. He said that the governor usually invites the single largest party to form the government. In this case, that would be TVK.

The governor of Tamil Nadu, Rajendra Arlekar, is expected to invite TVK to take the first step toward forming the government. After this, the party will be given around 7 to 15 days to prove its majority in the legislative assembly through a vote of confidence.

If TVK successfully gathers enough support and proves its majority, Vijay could become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. However, if the party fails to secure enough backing, the governor may then invite another alliance or combination of parties that can show a majority.

In a situation where no party or alliance is able to form a stable government, the governor may recommend President’s Rule under Article 356 of the Constitution of India. This would mean that the state assembly could be put on hold, and fresh elections might be conducted later.

“TVK Leaders Confident of Forming Government”

Senior TVK leader and campaign secretary Nanjil P. Sampath expressed confidence that the party will be able to secure the required support. When asked about the shortage of seats, he said that the remaining numbers would come “automatically,” although he did not clearly explain how.

On the possibility of forming an alliance with Congress, Sampath shared his personal opinion, saying that he expects such a partnership could happen. However, he made it clear that no final decision has been announced yet.

Sampath also mentioned that he plans to meet Governor Rajendra Arlekar soon, possibly within a day or two, to discuss government formation.

Talking about the party’s performance, he described TVK’s victory as historic. He claimed that no other political party in Indian history has achieved such a remarkable success in its debut at this scale. He also highlighted that Vijay had earlier said the election would be mainly a contest between TVK and DMK, and the results have proven his statement correct.

According to Sampath, TVK secured a vote share of 34.92 percent, which he described as one of the highest ever achieved by a leader in India. He added that this victory would be remembered and discussed for a long time.

Overall, Tamil Nadu is now witnessing an important political moment, with a new party rising strongly and traditional parties facing a major challenge. The coming days will be crucial in deciding who forms the next government in the state.
